The report, researched by the Nonprofit Tech For Good with the support of other international organisations, aims to gain a better understanding of how the NGOs use the internet.
The 2017 Global NGO Technology Survey is a global research project published in Arabic, English, French, Portuguese and Spanish intended to gain a better understanding of how organisations and collaborators use technology for fundraising. Researched by the Nonprofit Tech for Good and sponsored by the Public Interest Registry, the survey is an innovative study that aims to discover, among other data, an organisation’s number of posts per week on Facebook and Twitter, their use of web pages as fundraising tools and how they make use of email tools for marketing and communication.
The Public Interest Registry is a non-profit organisation created by the Internet Society (ISOC) in 2003 to manage the .org domain. In 2015, the organisation launched the .ngo and .ong domains in order to better service the global community of NGOs. On their part, the Nonprofit Tech For Good has about 100,000 visitors per month and over a million followers on social media. It is currently one of the biggest online fundraising blogs and professional social network that works with non-profit organisations.
The third edition of the global technology report will be published on 29 January 2018. Previous editions of the report have released past year results of the use of technology in NGOs. For example, the 2016 annual report gathered responses from 4,908 organizations from 153 different countries. The results of the report revealed that 92% of the organizations in the world have a web page and 67% accept donations online.
With this in mind, the Nonprofit Tech For Good has asked organizations in different countries to help distribute the survey. Among the collaborating organizations are Al Qasimi Foundation, MENA + Education, Arab Foundations Forum, Blackbaud Institute, Civicus, CONCORD Europe, Estúdio de Impacto, Greater Public, Infoxchange, iWith.org, Museu da Pessoa, Nigeria Network of NGOs, TechSoup Canada o Technology Trust.
