Lightful Services is a creative digital consultancy that helps beyond-profits transform how they do digital. Last february 6 they launched an online campaign to promote social networking for good.

Lightful is a tech-for-good company that launched a social media campaign promoting the use of social media for good causes the past February 6.

In the face of fake news, hatred comments and trolls all over social network platforms like Twitter and Facebook, Lightful struggled to make a difference —and the result was a success.

The one-day online campaign happened under the hashtag #ReclaimSocial, and organisations that had previously signed up to the event automatically sent messages  through their social media accounts.

#ReclaimSocial went viral within five hours, with 10 million people supporting it. By the end of the day, there had been more than 16 million social impressions and a total of 1,600 post, most of which were on Twitter.

Organisations like Comic Relief, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, the Institute of Fundraising and Giving Tuesday took active part in the campaign, sending positive messages all over the Internet.

Lightful company is not the first to come up with such an idea. The above mentioned Giving Tuesday is a similar global movement which aims at promoting a donation day, just like big companies have promoted and established Black Friday in every shopping center.

On their posts, small and big charities commented on how social media is helping them make more of an impact than they could have ever imagined.

The range of organisations that participated in the #ReclaimSocial is wide and diverse: from nonprofits that work to support rural communities to organisations that save human lives from drowning at the sea.

Vinay Nair, CEO of Lightful, described the campaign as “inspirational” and hopes that it  will continue somehow in the near future.

The bad news is that Catalan and Spanish organisations have not added to #ReclaimSocial, and neither have non-Anglo nonprofits and charities in general.

Similarly, the amount of money obtained via Giving Tuesday is only 0.1% of the large sum of money that companies make in Spain following a regular Black Friday.
