Insults and sexist comments just for being girls. This is what girl games experience day after day. A campaign has denounced this, to get male gamers to stand in their shoes.

Every day, millions of girls experience sexual harassment and intimidation when they play on-line videogames. Many of them hide behind male usernames to avoid this. Through the initiative My Game My Name male gamers have changed their username for female ones. The goal? To stand in the shoes of girls and see the comments they get.

The campaign, launched by Wonder Women Tech and Vivo, with the support of several women gamer associations, aims to show the harassment that women gamers are exposed to. Not only professionals, also amateurs who play peacefully from home.

On the initiative’s website, male gamers explain how they felt when receiving denigrating comments. The web also has videos by female gamers explaining how they deal with this daily scourge.
