The Barcelona Youth Council, the International Civil Service and Maloka are promoting a participatory process to reflect on the production and consumption model in the Mediterranean and Abya Yala.
Barcelona will host during the months of October and November a new participatory process promoted by the Barcelona Youth Council (CJB) , the International Civil Service (SCI) , and Maloka under the name " Youth Act: Connecting young people with global struggles" on the production and consumption model and its repercussions in the Mediterranean and Abya Yala .
This initiative, which celebrates its fifth edition this year, focuses on the current model of consumption and global relations that generate inequalities, rights violations and especially serious environmental impacts in the Global South, through an extractivist model promoted by the Global North that externalizes its environmental liabilities.
The process will involve the participation of 30 local young people and will be carried out in several phases that combine training, intergenerational debate, political advocacy and academic analysis, with participatory methodologies.
The Participatory Process, prior to the celebration of the IV International Youth Act Forum, will begin the week of October 13, 2025 and will be developed with a weekly session until the week of November 24, 2025 .
The specific schedule of the sessions will be finalized based on the responses collected on the registration form , with the aim of adapting as much as possible to the availability of the participants.
Phases of the Participatory Process NOW!
Phase 1: Training
- Week of October 13: Inaugural session to meet the participants, present the project and collectively specify the topics that will be addressed.
- Week of October 20: Training focused on the extractive economy, ecological debt and North-South relations.
- Week of October 27: Intergenerational meeting facilitated by Otras Narrativas , which will promote exchange between activists of different ages through a creative and community well-being approach.
- Week of November 3: Academic workshop open to all interested young women, led by the GRITIM-UPF research group, with a focus on the repercussions of the extractivist model in the Mediterranean and Abya Yala.
Phase 2: Advocacy proposals and meeting with representatives of the public administration
- Week of November 10: Session to materialize advocacy proposals.
Week of November 17: Institutional session with representatives of local administrations to convey proposals for political advocacy in the field of climate justice.
Phase 3: Closing of the participatory process and preparation of the IV International Forum in Barcelona
Week of November 24: Final reflection and synthesis session to identify good practices and lessons learned, and preparation for participation in the IV International Forum.
Some actions are still planned for 2020:
- Participation in the IV International Forum (February 2 to 7, 2026)
This final event, which will also take place in Barcelona, will facilitate the exchange between local activists and young people from Colombia and Palestine - territories strongly affected by extractivist logics -, thus delving into a global and supportive view of environmental and social impacts.
The process will be developed in parallel with an action-research coordinated by GRITIM, in a constant dialogue between the academic and practical spheres. All activities will have facilitation based on non-formal education, with inclusive, intercultural methodologies and with an approach of equity and parity, aligned with the work values of the organizing entities.
Strategic international meeting in Colombia (city of Cali) and Palestine (city of Nazareth) (dates to be determined)
After the participatory process and the IV International Forum in Barcelona, 14 participants from both activities -7 participants in each of the two countries involved in the project-, will be selected to form part of a delegation on a study visit to Colombia and Palestine with the aim of transcending the local area and contributing to the creation of collective strategies for global justice within the framework of rights violations derived from the extractivist model. These visits will allow them to understand more clearly the global impacts of this system, as well as share learnings and generate exchanges with local organizations in Colombia and Palestine.
The call is aimed at young people between 18 and 30 years old . Whether you are part of a group or organization, or if this is your first experience in a participation space, we encourage you to join us. All backgrounds and experiences are welcome! Registration is now open
