The study carried out by the platform Third Sector Impact provides a clearer understanding of this sector, its scope and its scale, by studying the existing and potential impacts, as well as the barriers it faces.

One of the conclusions in the report Learning from Europe is that the importance of the non-profit sector is found in the fact that it provides unique renewable and sustainable resources to solve social and economic problems, and also for democracy and the civil commitment in Europe.
This study by the Third Sector Impact also highlights that in times of a social and economic crisis, the non-profit sector becomes even more relevant, since it plays an important role as a true partner to promote economic development, an active citizenship and social cohesion.
More than 30 researchers from 10 European universities associated to the project participated in the study. For this, four large blocks were established: conceptualisation, measuring, impact
and barriers.
