A new report from Desos analyzes the structural causes of the climate crisis and invites joint reflection on degrowth and transformation towards a sustainable and equitable model.

The Desos organization has presented a new publication ' The Climate Emergency from Ecofeminisms and Food Sovereignty ', a document that connects the climate crisis with its structural causes and proposes solutions focused on social and environmental justice . This work, which has the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the European Union, offers an in-depth analysis of the dynamics that exacerbate climate change and how these especially affect the most vulnerable populations.

The text delves into aspects such as climate migrations, food sovereignty and the role of ecofeminism. Miguel Pajares , author of one of the chapters, highlights how climate change combined with the action of mining, agro-industry and other extractive sectors, are expelling millions of people from their habitats . Pajares emphasizes the need to recognize these migrations from a human rights framework, holding governments accountable for their inaction in the face of climate change.

The document also analyses the fundamental role of women in the fight against the climate crisis , with contributions from the Gender Group of the Iberian Limnology Association (AIL) . The authors reflect on how ecofeminism points out the root causes of the exploitation of nature and women, proposing a paradigm shift towards a system that prioritizes care and interdependence. In this sense, the publication offers real examples of initiatives led by women that have transformed communities and recovered degraded natural spaces.

Another key theme of the text is food sovereignty , addressed by Vanesa Freixa . This author claims the right of communities to decide on their food system, highlighting how the globalized agroindustrial model perpetuates inequalities and negatively affects the environment. The publication underlines the value of local and proximity production as a tool to combat the climate crisis and promote fairer societies.

In addition to this theoretical analysis, the document includes practical cases that serve as models of transformation, such as the Escola de Pastors de Catalunya or the Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat. These examples show how it is possible to regenerate territories, strengthen the social fabric and guarantee sustainable food for future generations.

With this publication, Desos makes available to citizens a key tool to understand and act on the great challenges of our time , promoting a transformative perspective that integrates values of social justice, gender equity and environmental sustainability.
