Cooperació Osona-Sàhara has launched this campaign so that children from the Tindouf refugee camp can spend the summer in Catalonia.
For a number of years, organizations showing solidarity with the Sahrawi people have been promoting the project ‘Vacances en Pau’ (Holidays in Peace) in several Catalan towns and villages. Through this initiative, children aged 8 to 12 living in the Tindouf refugee camp in Algeria are hosted by Catalan families for two months during the summer. This gives them the opportunity to learn about a new culture and live a different experience, while receiving a full medical check-up and specific care if this is required.
This year, thanks to the organization Cooperació Osona-Sàhara (COOOS), the plan is to get 28 families from Osona, Berguedà, Ripollès and Moianès to host the children. Each year, host families cover the expenses while the town councils are the ones who pay for the airplane tickets. However, this year no all of the town councils are able to cover the travel costs.
This is why Cooperació Osona-Sahara has set up a crowdfunding campaign on Goteo.org to raise the money needed to pay for 7 airplane tickets that have yet to be purchased and thus make the holidays in peace a reality, one more year.
