More than 77 organizations and 20 European countries take part in a campaign that hopes to gather 1 million signatures around Europe.

Europe is experiencing a serious housing crisis. As a consequence of the increase in prices, many citizens have been forced out of their neighbourhoods or cities. Around 82 million households on the continent allocate 40% of their income to paying expenses linked to housing and the number of homeless people is also growing.

To face stand up to this situation the 'Housing for All citizens’ initiative was created to find a coordinated response at a European level to find tools that will help moving towards a system of social affordable housing. 77 organizations are taking part in a campaign that was presented early in April in Brussels and in 20 other European countries.

The citizens’ initiative calls on EU countries to prioritize investing in a stock of social and affordable housing for rent or leasing through improvements to the legal and financial conditions, not applying the Maastricht criteria to public investment in housing; improved access to EU funding, social norms for short-term letting and statistics on housing needs in Europe.
