The initiative, promoted together by several European states, had as a goal to implement social innovations in the community by getting senior citizens to work together with youths facing exclusion.
How can social innovation be implemented through community initiatives using the existing resources?
The project NEET U has worked along these lines to meet two of Europe’s big challenges: the large number of senior citizens who do not participate creating value in society and “lost” generations of youths who live in vulnerable situations and with not many opportunities (NEETs).
More concretely, the project has mobilized experienced senior citizens as mediators/brokers to help change the difficult situation in which youths who neither study nor work are living.
Final meeting in Barcelona
The project was launched in September 2015 and will draw to an end at the end of February 2018. From 12th to 14th September, the Catalan capital hosted the last European meeting of the NEET U project, to agree building the final outcomes of the project and the required actions to bring the project to an end on a positive note.
This video gives you a glimpse of the feelings of youths and seniors participating in the project.
