The city has been chosen ahead of Lviv as the european volunteering capital.

The Centre For European Volunteering (CEV) announced which city will be the European volunteering capital in 2024. The lucky one is the italian city of Trento, after a close call with Lviv.

In choosing Trento as the European Volunteering Capital 2024, the jury has recognised in the press realesed that “the city is an excellent candidate and scored very highly on all aspects of the criteria based on the Blueprint for Volunteering 2030 (BEV2030).

Furthermore, the jury highlighted that Trento’s video “captured succinctly so many qualities, values and spirit of volunteering in the city that can set an example across Europe”.

The Jury also had a few words of thanks for Lviv as it “has shown with their candidacy the strenght and strong support for the volunteering efforts of citizens who mitigate the terrible consequences of war in such a variety of ways.”

The competition

This competition was created in 2013 by the Centre For European Volunteering (CEV) with the aim to promote volunteering at the local level, by giving recognition to local municipalities that offer support and close collaboration with organizations and associations of volunteers or that promote altruism, as highlighted by the recommendations set out in the Policy Agenda on Volunteering in Europe.

The competition is held every year and the winning municipality is chosen by a jury composed of many personalities from the European volunteering sector.
