During the crisis of the Covid-19, the entity wants to ensure the maintenance of the teachers’ job posts in Kalasans School, Dakar.

Dakar has become one of the most affected regions of Senegal due to Covid-19. Curfew was declared mid-march and, as a consequence, all educational centres were forced to close.

Besides, economic resources have substantially decreased, which has affected the maintenance of the basic home needs and has made school fee payments even more difficult, despite they are usually quite low.

One of the several projects that Fundació Babel Punt de Trobada (Babel PDT) is carrying out in Senegal is the schooling of children from the Sam Sam neighbourhood, located on the outskirts of Dakar. This community is in a situation of poverty and, as a result of the health crisis, the entity is especially concerned regarding the maintenance of the teachers' job posts. "They are a key element to ensure a decent education for children", they say from Babel Foundation.

From its very beginning, Babel Foundation assumes part of the schooling costs of students at Kalasans School, as well as the wages of the teachers, school materials and maintenance of the facilities. The educational centre of Sam Sam promotes access to more than 280 children who have been excluded from the public education system and, the entity does not want to stop caring about education in the community.

Despite the involvement of Babel PDT through its funds, the foundation is asking for help to ensure the continuity of Sam Sam's school and its task at educating children and youngsters. To bear the wages of the new teachers until the situation is resolved, they have set up an online crowdfunding - through Mi Grano de Arena platform - to collect funds and ensure the basic right of education.
