The candidacy, promoted by Pride Barcelona with the support of the Generalitat, the City Council and the Ministry of Equality, will be presented at the annual InterPride conference.
Barcelona's bid to host WorldPride 2030 continues to progress and has been presented in several cities that have hosted World Pride in recent years. The proposal, promoted by Pride Barcelona in conjunction with the Department of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Barcelona City Council and the Ministry of Equality, is pending the final decision on the city that will host the event.
The candidacy was presented last year in the United States, coinciding with WorldPride in Washington. Since then, bilateral meetings have been held with LGBTI+ organizations participating in this event, as well as several institutional presentations of the proposal. The candidacy has been presented in Amsterdam, the current headquarters of WorldPride, and also in Rome and Madrid, former headquarters of World Pride.
The Minister for Equality and Feminism, Eva Menor Cantador , highlighted Barcelona's role in defending LGBTI+ rights. "Barcelona is a benchmark for its public policies and because many people have found their home there to live authentically, without fear and with pride in being who they are," she shared. "This is the best letter of introduction that a city can offer the world."
In this sense, the minister assured that "Barcelona and Catalonia are fully prepared to host WorldPride 2030 and, above all, to continue to be a space of freedom, respect and dignity for everyone."
A proposal linked to LGBTI+ rights
WorldPride is a celebration that promotes the visibility and advocacy of the rights of the LGBTI+ community in the international sphere. Barcelona's candidacy is based on the city's history as a benchmark for the LGBTI+ movement and in the defense of human rights.
The proposal also highlights Barcelona as a safe and inclusive space to celebrate diversity, claim rights and forge international alliances. The candidacy highlights the relevance of this commitment in a context marked by the growth of hate speech and setbacks in rights around the world.
A year with special significance
For Barcelona and Catalonia, the year 2030 has a special symbolic charge, as it will coincide with two milestones linked to LGBTI+ rights. On the one hand, the 25th anniversary of equal marriage in the State will be celebrated and, on the other, the 50th anniversary of the legalization of the Front d'Alliberament Gai de Catalunya (FAGC), the first association of the collective in Spain.
The candidacy considers this double commemoration an opportunity to reclaim historical memory and renew the commitment to LGBTI+ rights.
Three axes to drive change
The slogan of the candidacy is “Let's Think, Let's Answer, Let's Change” , three axes on which the content and programming of World Pride unfolds.
"Let's Think" proposes a space for reflection and dialogue to imagine new responses to current social challenges. "Let's Answer" seeks to promote collective responses to hate speech. Finally, "Let's Change" aims to transform this debate into a tangible legacy, with shared initiatives that contribute to building more inclusive, democratic and human rights-respecting societies.
WorldPride is held every two years in a different city and combines parades, marches and festivals with other actions, such as an international conference on human rights. The first edition took place in Rome in 2000 and, since then, World Pride has been held in different cities around the world, such as Madrid or New York. The 2026 edition is in Amsterdam and in 2028 it will take place in Cape Town.
The winning city of WorldPride 2030 will be announced in mid-November , after the final presentation of the candidacy at the annual InterPride 2026 conference, which will take place in Phuket (Thailand) at the end of October.
In addition to Barcelona, Bangkok is the other candidate to host World Pride in 2030.
