The new initiative seeks to amplify citizens’ voices and reinforce the role of civil society in European democracy.
Civil Society Europe launched its new awareness campaign, “Voices of Millions”, during an event held in Brussels on 5 May 2026, bringing together more than 60 participants from civil society organisations, European institutions and media outlets.
The event opened with remarks on the historic contribution of civil society to the European project and its role in promoting equality, defending fundamental rights and supporting citizens during times of crisis. Speakers stressed that civil society remains essential in addressing today’s major challenges, from sustainability and digital inclusion to social cohesion and democratic participation.
A panel discussion explored how national organisations contribute to shaping change at European level through cooperation within EU-wide networks. Representatives from Spain and Belgium shared examples of successful advocacy, including efforts to recognise volunteering as a source of professional skills and progress toward the implementation of the European Disability Card.
The campaign was presented as a platform to strengthen collective participation, empower underrepresented communities and create stronger links between European citizens and institutions. Organisers explained that “Voices of Millions” aims to showcase the impact and representativeness of civil society across Europe.
The event concluded with calls for stronger EU support, sustainable funding and meaningful consultation processes to ensure civil society continues to play a central role in European policymaking and democratic development.
