FEM_EU aims at influencing the European elections to put gender equality and the human rights of women at the top of the political agenda on the continent.
Women represent 51% of the European Union’s population, which allows us to say that, even today, more than half of the continent’s citizens face ongoing discrimination in several areas of life. While 1 in 3 have experienced physical or sexual violence, the wage gap remains at 16.2% and for pensions, the gap reaches 40%.
To end this inequality and enhance the role of women in the European Union and its institutions, in May 2018 FEM_EU (Feminist Europe) was founded, as the result of the synergies between the Fundació Aroa and the consultancy firm Eurolocal.
With the next elections to the European Parliament fast approaching (they will take place in May 2019), FEM_EU wants to open up a space for discussion, reflexion and citizen participation around the value of women in the construction of Europe. This initiative aims at influencing the European political agenda to safeguard the human rights of women and to achieve effective gender equality.
Efforts also aim to improve the participation of women in European elections and their representation in the European Parliament’s next composition.

Next 29th March Barcelona will host the second of two international seminars with discussions with top local, national and European political, social, economic and media experts.
