Stop Mare Mortum promotes this initiative with the idea of creating a work for each person who has lost his life trying to cross the borders.

#MedFaces or Faces of the Mediterranean, is an artistic and participatory initiative promoted by the entity Stop Mare Mortum whose purpose is to denounce the death of thousands of people on European borders. It also aims to reflect on the situation of displaced people who try to reach Europe through the Mediterranean. The purpose is to create a work for each refugee, exile, raid and immigrant person who has lost their lives trying to cross the borders of the Mediterranean since 2000.
Is it possible to collect 37,000 works?
So far, artists from more than 50 countries have sent the organization about 500 works. Each image explains a story in the same way that each dead person is a lost life full of dreams, abilities and feelings.
This is the most important message of the initiative: it is necessary to reflect, look at people in the eyes, realize that we do not talk about figures and statistics, but of people who deserve a dignified life, a better future and the same rights, as all human beings.
The entity struggles to make the Mediterranean a sea of encounter, joy and exchange, and not a common grave of people fleeing misery.
