Stefano Maccarone: “Share Festival aims to show that the best way to happiness is sharing”
The pop-rock and urban music festival collaborates with more than 20 NGOs and aims to carry out up to 15,000 solidarity actions.
Next Saturday and Sunday, 28 & 29 June, Barcelona will see the second edition of the Share Festival. With a festive programme of urban and pop-rock music for all, the aim is to show that “the best way to happiness is sharing”.
This year’s edition includes a first day with more urban music, with Becky G; C. Tangana; Lola Indigo and Don Patricio, while on the 29th the music played will mostly be pop-rock with artists like Alfred García; Nil Moliner; Carlos Sadness and rap-singer Rayden. The festival includes performances by the hip-hop band Brodas Bros and the DJ and influencer Luc Loren.
Solidarity in exchange for music
Share Festival is the first festival offering the audience the possibility to earn tickets for the festival through solidarity actions using the application.
Stefano Maccarone, the festival’s director explains that “we have a model that is slightly different to the norm. Using the festival’s application, you can contribute to solidarity actions with just one click and at no extra cost. We have different initiatives from more than 20 NGOs”.
These initiatives focus on themes such as climate change, human rights, gender equality, development for the education of children and ending extreme poverty.
All actions can be done by simply clicking on Facebook and Twitter, signing online petitions or scanning QR codes. These actions then give you points that will allow you to participate in a draw and win tickets, purchase two tickets for the price of one, or win tickets for other musical events.
More than 20NGs teaming up with Share Festival
Solidarity actions are co-organized with NGOs such as Action Against Hunger, UNICEF, Amnesty International, Aura, Change.org, Common Goal, CiviClub, Red Cross, Greenpeace, Jane Goodall Institute, Doctors Without Borders, Proactiva Open Arms and Teaming.
The festival receives collaboration from several applications. Maccarone explains that the “Tik Tok app, the third most downloaded app after Instagram and WhatsApp, is also supporting the event. For every dance posted to promote the “Share Festival”, 1 Euro is donated to Doctors Without Borders”.
The App Bumble, also joins the cause, giving out free sunglasses and ice-cream on the days of the festival, and donating 15,000 vaccines against tetanus through Unicef.
Another initiative during the festival will be a food-collection campaign through the Ivan Mañero foundation. “They will be with us during the two days of the festival at the entrance and will deliver the food to Guinea-Bissau”, Maccarone adds.
The future of the Festival
“For next year, the idea is to find a larger place, but still in Barcelona” according to Maccarone.
In the mid-term, the festival would like to disembark in Madrid as, as its director says, “Madrid is a city where a Festival of this nature would really work”.
In the long-term, the goal of Share Festival is to become something similar to the Global Citizen Festival, one of the largest solidarity festivals in the world which, year after year, carries out millions of solidarity actions that offer help to many people.
Anyone wishing to be at the festival can buy their tickets and support solidarity actions through the web.
