The Slovak city has been chosen, ahead of the other two finalists, Augsburg in Germany and Cascais in Portugal.
Sligo is delighted to be named the European Volunteering Capital for 2017. Plans are already underway for what promises to be a fantastic year.
The Irish municipality will take over from London (2016) after beating six other candidates. The volunteering capital in 2018 will be Aarhus.
