Now that the summer holidays are approaching, it is necessary to think critically about the type of tourism we do and what impact our visit and stay has on the localities visited.

It's getting easier to travel and because of that many people can meet in the same place during a short vacation period.

The rise of mass tourism has brought with it a series of consequences for the world's most popular destinations. From environmental deterioration to cultural degradation. However, in the midst of this panorama, a positive change is also taking place. Increasingly, the importance of adopting responsible tourism practices is being recognized to mitigate these impacts and preserve destinations for future generations. As tourists, we have the responsibility to be aware of our actions and choose options that favor sustainability and respect for local communities.

In this context, several organizations are leading the way towards a more conscious and responsible tourism. Here we present four entities that work to combat the negative effects of mass tourism:

Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)
They establish and manage global standards for sustainability in travel and tourism, and support the creation of responsible policies and practices.

The International Ecotourism Society (TIES)
They promote ecotourism as a tool for conservation and sustainable development, promoting responsible practices among tourists and companies.

Travel Foundation
They work with the tourism industry to reduce the negative impacts of mass tourism and promote benefits for local communities and the environment.

Center for Responsible Travel (CREST)
Non-profit organization that researches and promotes sustainable tourism policies at a global level, collaborating with various interested parties to promote a more conscious and responsible tourism.

These organizations offer resources and programs that can guide us towards a more ethical and sustainable tourism, helping us to become responsible travelers who contribute positively to the world we explore.
