Eliminating gender diversity policies and sending hate messages against trans people are some of the actions of the United States federal government that have generated an uproar among the LGBTIQ+ community.

Many LGBTIQ+ organizations in the region are celebrating the International Trans Visibility Day this March . A day that aims to publicly show and denounce the discrimination that trans people still suffer.

All of this comes at a complicated time for the group. The reason is that the beginning of 2025 has been marked by the discriminatory actions of the President of the United States, Donald Trump , towards trans people. Prohibiting their access to the Army or limiting gender reassignment treatments are some of them.

These decisions have hit the LGBTIQ+ community hard. “As a trans person, I feel powerless and angry . It's incredible that in 2025 we are still fighting for basic rights that should never be in doubt,” explains Hugo Marlo , co-founder of the Tiresias Association . “I find it hard to believe that someone with so much power could be so cruel , capable of taking away the rights of thousands of trans people without any empathy,” he adds.

In this sense, the group shows its concern and puts on the table the capacity for repercussion that these messages can have worldwide . A transphobia that is no longer hidden and is transmitted directly without taking into account the future consequences.

"It's scary to see how hate continues to have so much power in politics . What Trump is doing not only affects trans people in his country, but is sending a very dangerous message to the rest of the world," admits Hugo.

Social networks are often the easiest channels to transmit hate messages against the group . In fact, many entities have already denounced the new Meta regulations that allow LGBTIQ+ people to be classified as mentally ill . “We see it through the Internet and also on the street. Violence against trans people increases every day,” explains Daniel Sánchez , member of the Trans* Girona Association

Daniel states that “we all have the right to live in freedom” . That is why, on behalf of the entity, he gives a message to continue fighting . “It has taken decades to get to this point. Although it can always be improved, the trans law has allowed us to gain rights and in this sense, we will continue to demand that trans people exist and will always exist ”, argues Daniel.
