Rise Up Together has unveiled the executive summary of its new report examining the connection between climate change and gender inequality worldwide. The research highlights both the disproportionate impact on women and girls and the locally driven solutions emerging across communities.
Rise Up Together has released the executive summary of its latest report, Lessons at the Intersection of Climate and Gender, offering an initial overview of research conducted across multiple regions on how climate change is affecting women and girls worldwide.
The organization spent recent months engaging with climate and gender justice advocates from Africa, South Asia, Latin America, and the United States to gather perspectives on the growing challenges communities are facing. The research draws on contributions from more than 500 organizations, as well as discussions with movement leaders representing five countries across three continents.
According to the report, climate change continues to have a disproportionate impact on historically marginalized populations, particularly women and girls, whose daily lives and economic security are increasingly threatened by environmental and social pressures. The findings highlight how climate-related disruptions — including the loss of livelihoods, displacement, and environmental degradation — are worsening existing inequalities and limiting access to resources, leadership opportunities, and decision-making spaces.
At the same time, the study emphasizes that communities around the world are already developing practical and locally led responses. These initiatives include efforts to improve food resilience, restore ecosystems, expand sustainable economic opportunities, and push for policy reforms aimed at advancing climate and gender justice simultaneously.
The executive summary also identifies several ongoing obstacles that continue to limit progress, including insufficient financial support, limited access to reliable data, and structural barriers preventing local leaders from participating fully in decision-making processes.
Rise Up Together states that the research underlines the importance of investing in long-term systemic solutions, strengthening collaboration among organizations, and placing local leadership at the center of climate action strategies.
The publication of the executive summary marks the first phase of the organization’s broader report rollout. Rise Up Together announced that the full report will be released in the coming weeks, alongside further discussions on the implications of the findings for global climate and gender justice efforts.
