Setem Catalunya has been denouncing rights violations in the technology supply chain for eight years as part of the 'Fair Electronics' campaign.
The Mobiles Social Congress (MSC) is once again counter-programming the Mobile World Congress (MWC) to claim sustainable and fair electronics. Setem Catalunya organizes this annual meeting, which always begins with an action at the gates of the technological macro-congress held in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.
This year the social congress proposes a hybrid model between theory and practice. On Thursday, March 2, there will be round tables that will expose the violation of human and environmental rights that occur in the supply chains of the technology sector, especially during extraction and manufacturing, a reality that will be complemented by a film forum on Friday, March 3 .
Within the practical part, on Saturday March 4 there will be a repair workshop for small electronic devices, an 'Install Party ' for the installation of free software and an exhibition and children's games about responsible consumption.
8 years putting the finger on the sore
Since 2016, SETEM Catalunya has denounced the contradictions of the electronics industry through this congress and as part of its 'Fair Electronics' campaign . In previous editions, they have put on the table the poor working conditions of people working in electronics factories , the need to guarantee the privacy of internet users, initiatives for recycling and against programmed obsolescence , and the impact of electronic waste in the Global South.
The organization always achieves an updated look at the challenges of the future, as it has done on other occasions dealing with topics such as the rise of electronics factories in Europe , socially responsible public procurement , the first Amazon union or the problematic of the supply of microchips.
