The Scottish Charity Awards 2017, an event for charities and voluntary organisations

The Scottish Charity Awards 2017 is a new opportunity for charitable and voluntary organisations to be recognised by the public on a leading event that this year is going to be celebrated in Edinburgh on the 22^nd of June. In this sense, the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO)  organises again the hub where non-profits can be nominated in eight different award categories. SCVO is the membership organisation for Scotland’s charities. They work in partnership with the voluntary sector to advance shared values and interests. At the moment, they have over 1800 members who range from individuals and grassroots groups, to Scotland-wide organisations and intermediary bodies.

The shortlist for each category will be announced on 12 May. Among the huge range of incredible work going on all over the country, SCVO has established the following categories:

• Charity of the year: an organization that has enjoyed an exceptional year, sponsored by Keegan & Pennykid Insurance Brokers.
• Celebrating communities: an outstanding grassroots or community initiative.
• Cracking campaign: a strong awareness raising or fundraising campaign, sponsored by SGN.
• Charity champion: someone who has demonstrated great dedication to a cause.
• Demonstrating digital: a groundbreaking digital organization or project, sponsored by Digital Scotland.
• Leading Light: an employee whose dedication is reaping rewards for their organization.
• Pioneering project: an innovative project that has made a huge difference.
• Terrific trustee: a board member who really excels, sponsored by OSCR.

All  shortlisted charities and individuals are entered into the People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Charities Aid Foundation. Voting for that opens on 12 May and closes on 26 May. Among the previous winners in all different categories, we can find the following organisations: Skye and Lochalsh Young Carers, Disabled Access Day, Saheliya and Callander Youth Project, Macmillan Cancer Support , Glasgow Life, Friends of Oban Community PlayPark and The Libertie Project Limited.

The evening will begin with a red carpet for guests, a drinks reception with networking followed by a three course dinner. The highlight will be the glittering awards ceremony, where 500 guests will hear more about finalists before SCVO reveals the winners.
