The Palestinian political leader, activist, and doctor has visited Barcelona under the auspices of CIEMEN and ACP, subsequent to Spain's recognition of Palestine, to denounce the inhumane acts perpetrated by Israel against Palestinian citizens.

On May 28, 2024, the Spanish Council of Ministers officially recognized the state of Palestine, in coordination with Ireland and Norway. This measure adds to the more than one hundred and forty countries that have recognized Palestine as a state. It is a step forward in a conflict that has a long and difficult path ahead, given Israel's international relations with various European countries and the United States regarding weapons trade.

The Catalan Association for Peace (ACP) and the Centre Internacional Escarré per a les Minories Ètniques i les Nacions (CIEMEN) accompanied Palestinian political leader, activist, and doctor Mustafa Barghouti during his visit to Catalonia to denounce the genocide, war crimes, and human rights violations that Israel is committing against Palestinian citizens. The political leader argues that it is crucial to sanction the State of Israel before the International Court of Justice and to stop the atrocities that are being committed.

In the context of the event 'Catalonia with Palestine. Against Genocide', organized by the ACP and CIEMEN, Barghouti presented his personal battle and the current situation in Palestine.
