The Peace Week is a youth camp for youths coming from several countries and this year it will be held from 13 to 20 March in Barcelona.
This camp brings together youths from around the world to exchange and propose solutions to the climate emergency and social and economic inequalities that migrant people face after an adverse climate event.
SCI Catalonia is organising this camp, and the goal is to learn about the reality of different youths from the Mediterranean with regards to the current situation of climate emergency with a special focus on human rights’ violations experienced by people who have been forced to seek asylum because of climate events.
Youths will participate in a series of activities to exchange, learn, discuss and share experiences on today’s global situation and in their countries. They will also try finding solutions to the climate emergency, especially to avoid the rights of those affected being violated.
During the camp, they will learn about the consequences of extractivism and environmental destruction and will explore possible future actions that volunteering organisations can undertake without harming the environment and migrants, stepping away from authoritarian policies and hate speech.
The seminar will be in English and will explore the origin and impact of today’s economic model, authoritarian policies that cause displacement, and will promote eco-feminist and intercultural points of view.
The final day will be devoted to an open event where the youths will share their conclusions and initiatives reached during the camp.
Participants
A maximum of 25 youths will participate from: Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Kurdistan, Palestine, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Tunisia, but there is still one vacancy. Anyone wishing to participate must be a member of SCI and must have knowledge on the theme of the seminar.
Before the camp, they will need to search for information on the current situation in their country with regards to the climate emergency and migration so that, during the seminar, they can make contributions and compare with other youths.
Travel expenses will be covered by SCI Catalunya.
