250 million children of primary school age lack basic reading, writing and math skills. This founding works in deprived regions to reduce these figures.

Education impacts every area of life. Sometimes we are not aware of the significance of being able to read because we think that it is inherent but nothing could be more untrue. Up to 75% of children in more deprived regions of poor countries can’t read a single word even after several years in school. This lack of quality education can lead to health and sanitation issues, gender inequality, lack of qualified teachers, familial economic instability or infraestructure challenges.

The cost of 250 million children around the world not learning basic skills translates into a loss of an estimated US$129 billion per year. In order to face this issue was born Pencils of Promise, a founding which create schools, programmes and global communities around the common goal of education for all.

Currently, Pencils of promise is working in Ghana, Nicaragua, Laos and Guatemala providing quality educational programming to increase literacy rates. Concretely, They are working in these programmes:

  • Teacher support: They are changing the way teachers are supported and trained providing them with innovative resources to unsure that students are learning effectively.
  • Health education: They teach kids about potable water, sanitation and hygiene.
  • Build safe schools.

Children's education is a global issue and these type of actions are really essential. If you want to know more about this founding, you can take a look at its website. Besides, people who would like to collaborate with this organisation can do it making a donations
