The piece, narrated by the actor Eduard Farelo, appeals to the need to strengthen the defense of human rights at a time of global erosion of the international system of guarantees.

Amnesty International Catalonia has presented this month the video 'Control Z' , an audiovisual piece that plays with the metaphor of the computer function of 'undo' , created by Larry Tesler in 1983. With the voice and narration of actor Eduard Farelo , the video raises a central idea: in the real world there is no combination of keys that allows collective errors to be reversed , and therefore non-repetition is an essential principle in the defense of human rights.

The initiative is framed in a global context marked by the erosion of the international human rights system that emerged after World War II. According to Amnesty International's 2025/2026 annual report , several governments and state actors are weakening norms and protection mechanisms that had been fundamental for decades. Faced with this scenario, the organization recalls that its work, which it has been carrying out since 1961, is “ more necessary than ever ”.

The video aims to be both a reminder of Amnesty's work and a call to grow its social base to strengthen its advocacy and campaigning capacity. Amnesty International is a global, independent and democratic movement, with more than 10 million members, activists and supporters around the world. In Catalonia, at the end of 2025, it had 18,875 members , and in Spain, with 107,000 .

Economic independence is one of the pillars of the organization: Amnesty does not receive public subsidies or funding from governments, but is maintained exclusively thanks to the contributions of members . This autonomy, they explain, is key to guaranteeing its capacity to denounce and impartiality in the defense of human rights.

'Control Z' is being disseminated through social networks and has been produced by the communication and audiovisual agency Pòrtland . The piece seeks to challenge the public with simple but forceful language , and to remind us that the protection of human rights depends on both institutions and citizen mobilization.
